- Gegeneophis (Gegenophis[a]): gr. γεγειος gegeios „z ziemi zrodzony”; όφις óphis „wąż”[2]. Nazwa zastępcza dla Gegenes (zajęta przez Gegenes Hübner, 1816 (motyle)).
