Kuskusiec^[6] (Ailurops) – rodzaj ssaka z podrodziny kuskuśców (Ailuropinae) w obrębie rodziny pałankowatych (Phalangeridae).

Zasięg występowania edytuj

Rodzaj obejmuje gatunki występujące na wyspach należących do Indonezji (Salibabu, Wyspy Talaud, Celebes, Peleng, Muna, Buton, Wyspy Togian)^[7]^[8]^[9].

Morfologia edytuj

Długość ciała 45–57 cm, długość ogona 35,5–58 cm; masa ciała 5–8 kg^[8]^[10].

Systematyka edytuj

Rodzaj zdefiniował w 1830 roku niemiecki przyrodnik Johann Georg Wagler w książce swojego autorstwa o tytule Natürliches System der Amphibien mit vorangehender Classification der Säugethiere und Vöge^[1]. Jako gatunek typowy Wagler wyznaczył kuskuśca niedźwiedziego (A. ursinus).

Etymologia edytuj

Ceonix (Ceonyx): gr. κεω keō „podzielić, rozszczepić”; ονυξ onux, ονυχος onukhos „pazur”^[11].
Ailurops (Aelurops): gr. αιλουρος ailouros „kot”; ωψ ōps, ωπος ōpos „twarz, oblicze”^[12].
Eucuscus: gr. ευ eu „ładny, piękny, dobry, typowy”; rodzaj Cuscus Illiger, 1811 (pałanka)^[13]. Gatunek typowy: Phalangista ursina Temminck, 1824.
