Zasięg występowania edytuj

Rodzaj obejmuje gatunki występujące w Afryce[5][6][7].

Morfologia edytuj

Długość ciała (bez ogona) 115–188 mm, długość ogona 88–159 mm, długość ucha 13–24 mm, długość tylnej stopy 22–38 mm; masa ciała 48–180 g[6][8].

Systematyka edytuj

Rodzaj zdefiniował w 1842 roku francuski zoolog René Lesson w publikacji swojego autorstwa dotyczącej ssaków o tytule Nouveau tableau du règne animal: Mammifères[1]. Na gatunek typowy Lesson wyznaczył (oznaczenie monotypowe) kusu nilowego (A. niloticus).

Etymologia edytuj

  • Arvicanthis (Arviacanthis): rodzaj Arvicola Lacépède, 1799 (karczownik); łac. acanthis ‘kręgosłup’[9].
  • Isomys: gr. ισος isos ‘jednakowy, podobny’; μυς mus, μυος muos ‘mysz’[10]. Gatunek typowy: Sundevall wymienił dwa gatunki z czego na typ nomenklatoryczny wyznaczono Mus variegatus Lichtenstein, 1823 (Lemmus niloticus É. Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire, 1803).

Podział systematyczny edytuj

Do rodzaju należą następujące żyjące współcześnie gatunki[11][8][5][4]:
