Mecz finałowy Mistrzostw Świata w Piłce Nożnej 1978 odbył się 25 czerwca 1978 roku na stadionie Monumental w Buenos Aires w Argentynie. Spotkały się w nim reprezentacja Argentyny z reprezentacją Holandii[1]. Sędzią tego meczu był Sergio Gonella (Włochy)[2]. Mistrzostwo świata po raz pierwszy w historii zdobyli Argentyńczycy, którzy – po dogrywce – pokonali Holendrów 3:1 (wynik w regulaminowym czasie gry – 1:1[3])[4]. Królem strzelców turnieju został Mario Kempes (6 bramek)[5]. Puchar Świata wzniósł kapitan Argentyńczyków, Daniel Passarella, który otrzymał tę nagrodę z rąk ówczesnego prezydenta Argentyny Jorge Videli[6].
