Dem Wappen liegt das aus dem 12. Jahrhundert stammende Gerichts- und Schöffensiegel zugrunde. Es führt den Heinsberger Löwen in der Farbe des Herzogtums Jülich.“ Das Wappen ist aus dem Gerichts- und Schöffensiegel entstanden, das Gangelt im 12. Jahrhundert erhalten hat. Es handelt sich um den Heinsberger Löwen in der Farbe des Herzogtums Jülich. English: „Gangelt was in the 13th century a possession of the Lords of Heinsberg.
