Introduced, cool season, annual erect, glaucous, simple or much-branched herb, 10–40 cm tall; hairless except for glandular-hairy sepals. Leaves are linear to narrow-elliptic and 0.4–3.5 cm long; whorled below, but alternate up the stem. Flowerheads are many-flowered spikes to racemes; at first dense then elongating in fruit. Flowers are nearly sessile, but pedicels are 1–2 mm in fruit. Sepals are 2 mm long. Petals are 2-lipped, 3–4 mm long, pale blue to purple, palate at least sometimes white, and with a spur 1.5–3 mm long and curved; upper lip pointed outwards, lower lip longest, recurved. Fruit are rounded capsules 3–4 mm long. Flowering is in spring. Found chiefly in disturbed sites along roadsides and railway lines, or in pasture, and in forest and woodland.
