The Battle of Hastings (poemat)
The Battle of Hastings – poemat Sydneya Hodgesa, ogłoszony w tomie The Battle of Hastings and Other Poems w 1853. Utwór opowiada o bitwie stoczonej 14 października 1066, w której Wilhelm Zdobywca pokonał wojska anglosaksońskie króla Harolda II[1].
- But when the Normans saw him fail
- One savage shout arose;
- And swiftly to the fight they turned,
- And fell upon the foes.
- But ranged behind their trenches.
- The Saxons bore the brunt;
- And nought could shake their steady hearts,
- And nought could break their front.
