Over this heart that is throbbing beneath!

Swear it ! Yes, swear, that the oath may stand,

Nor perish away in the passing breath.

There ! it is done ! Bound soul and heart, —

Not to the evil, for no black art

The struggling soul shall stain, but good,

Good for thee and for me. Why should

Thy cheek blanch white, as if a fear

Pressed on thy footsteps darkly near?
