Literacka nagroda Aschehouga przyznawana jest autorom norweskim w uznaniu za zasługi twórcze niezależnie od wydawcy z jakim są związani. Przyznawana jest na podstawie niezależnej rekomendacji komitetu ds. literatury Norweskiego Stowarzyszenia Krytyków. Nagroda jest wręczana jest corocznie podczas imprezy organizowanej przez wydawnictwo Aschehoug w sierpniu, w willi Aschehoug przy Drammensveien 99 w Oslo.
Christoph W. Bauer urodził się w niewielkiej miejscowości Kolbnitz w gminie [[Reißeck (gmina)|Reißeck]] w kraju związkowym [[Karyntia]], w powiecie [[Powiat Spittal an der Drau|Spittal an der Drau]]. Młodość spędził w [[Lienz]] i [[Kirchberg]]u w [[Tyrol]]u. Od 2012 roku wykładał na [[Uniwersytet Leopolda i Franciszka w Innsbrucku|Uniwersytecie Leopolda i Franciszka w Innsbrucku]]. W 2013 roku był wykładowcą poetyki na [[Universität Klagenfurt|Alpen-Adria Universität Klagenfurt]] a w latach 2015-2016 wykładał w Institut für Sprachkunst w Wiedniu{{r|biog|vers}}.
Nagroda została ustanowiona w 1972 roku z okazji 100. rocznicy powstania wydawnictwa Aschehoug. Zespół krytyków od samego początku był jurorem nagrody. Nagroda jest uważana za jedną z najbardziej prestiżowych nagród literackich w Norwegii. Składa się ze statuetki i kwoty 100 000 NOK (2018). Statuetka jest miniaturą rzeźby Ørnulfa Basta „Eternal Life”, której oryginał stoi poza obiektami wydawniczymi u Sehesteda . [5]
