Be a Wikimedia fundraising "User Experience" volunteer!

Thank you to everyone who volunteered last year on the Wikimedia fundraising 'User Experience' project. We have talked to many different people in different countries and their feedback has helped us immensely in restructuring our pages. If you haven't heard of it yet, the 'User Experience' project has the goal of understanding the donation experience in different countries (outside the USA) and enhancing the localization of our donation pages.

I am (still) searching for volunteers to spend some time on a Skype chat with me, reviewing their own country's donation pages. It will be done on a 'usability' format (I will ask you to read the text and go through the donation flow) and will be asking your feedback in the meanwhile.

The only pre-requisite is for the volunteer to actually live in the country and to have access to at least one donation method that we offer for that country (mainly credit/debit card, but also real time banking like IDEAL, E-wallets, etc...) so we can do a live test and see if the donation goes through. **All volunteers will be reimbursed of the donations that eventually succeed (and they will be very low amounts, like 1-2 dollars)**

Edit filter concern

Hi. I have a quick question. I have been trying to fix up errors in the voice actors section of Sonic X. The IPs in question were adding information pertaining to the cast from Disney-related films ([1], [[2], [3], which to me, is considered false information. However, I am concerned about an edit filter warning: Wulgaryzmy i nieodpowiednie słownictwo. I don't really speak Polish, but if I did anything wrong at all then I am very sorry, as it was never my intention to cause any trouble. Can you help? Wikimedia sites to move to primary data center in Ashburn, Virginia. Read-only mode expected.

(Apologies if this message isn't in your language.) Next week, the Wikimedia Foundation will transition its main technical operations to a new data center in Ashburn, Virginia, USA. This is intended to improve the technical performance and reliability of all Wikimedia sites, including this wiki. There will be some times when the site will be in read-only mode, and there may be full outages; the current target windows for the migration are January 22nd, 23rd and 24th, 2013, from 17:00 to 01:00 UTC (see other timezones on timeanddate.com). Commons map image color code update

Hello. I recently updated the color system for the image Plik:World-cannabis-laws.png, which is used here in the article Marihuana, and have been trying to update the color information on different Wikipedias. However, I haven't been able to find the right wording using an online translator, so could someone here update it from the English wording in the image? Thank you. 1. Użytkownik musi posiadać konto w jakimkolwiek projekcie Wikimedii, który został zarejestrowany przed 1 stycznia 2013, 00:00[UTC]

Wikidata phase 1 (language links) coming to this Wikipedia

Wikidata has been in development for a few months now. It is now time for the roll-out of the first part of it on your Wikipedia. Phase 1 is the support for the management of language links. It is already being used on the Hungarian, Hebrew, Italian and English Wikipedias. The next step is to enable the extension on all other Wikipedias. We have currently planned this for March 6.

What is Wikidata?

Wikidata is a central place to store data that you can usually find in infoboxes. Think of it as something like Wikimedia Commons but for data (like the number of inhabitants of a country or the length of a river) instead of multimedia. The first part of this project (centralizing language links) is being rolled out now. The more fancy things will follow later.

What is going to happen?

Language links in the sidebar are going to come from Wikidata in addition to the ones in the wiki text. To edit them, scroll to the bottom of the language links, and click edit. You no longer need to maintain these links by hand in the wiki text of the article.

Where can I find more information and ask questions?

Editors on en:wp have created a great page with all the necessary information for editors and there is also an FAQ for this deployment. Please ask questions you might have on the FAQ’s discussion page.

• Staram się przetłumaczyć słowo «Podokólne» w języku rosyjskim i nie mogę znaleźć odpowiednika. Okólny - окольный (w języku rosyjskim jest słowo "околица" - 1) koniec wsi albo 2) ogrodzenie wioski). «Podokólne» - położony na konce wsi?

  Околица to nie tylko ww. dwa znaczenia.

  1. В старину: изгородь вокруг деревни, при въезде в деревню; ворота или проход в такой изгороди. Изба у околицы. Выйти за околицу.
  2. Окраина селения. Проводить до околицы. Жить на околице.
  3. Нар.-разг. Окольная, не прямая дорога.
  4. ◊ Во всю околицу кричать. Очень громко. Расславить, ославить на всю околицу.

Polish translation needed for Commons Template Template:Closed cap

Dear Polish editors,

I added Polish subtitles to File:Dmitry Medvedev - 2010 Polish Air Force Tu-154 crash.ogv from the Russian government's Polish transcript. There is a Commons template, Commons:Template:Closed cap that indicates the presence of subtitles, but it needs a Polish translation.

A while ago the first phase of Wikidata was enabled on this Wikipedia. This means you are getting the language links in each article from Wikidata. It is soon time to enable the second phase of Wikidata (infoboxes) here. We have already done this on the [first 11 Wikipedias] (it, he, hu, ru, tr, uk, uz, hr, bs, sr, sh) and things are looking good. The next step is English Wikipedia. This is planned for April 8. If everything works out fine we will deploy on all remaining Wikipedias on April 10. I will update this part of the FAQ if there are any issues forcing us to change this date. I will also sent another note to this village pump once the deployment is finished.

What will happen once we have phase 2 enabled here? Once it is enabled in a few days you will be able to make use of the structured data that is available on Wikidata in your articles/infoboxes. It includes things like the symbol for a chemical element, the ISBN for a book or the top level domain of a country. (None of this will happen automatically. Someone will have to change the article or infobox template for this to happen!)

How will this work? There are two ways to access the data:

• Use a parser function like {{#property:p169}} in the wiki text of the article on Yahoo!. This will return “Marissa Mayer” as she is the chief executive officer of the company.
• For more complicated things you can use Lua. The documentation for this is here.

We are working on expanding the parser function so you can for example use {{#property:chief executive officer}} instead of {{#property:p169}}. The complete plan for this is here.

The default position of the "edit" link in page section headers is going to change soon. The "edit" link will be positioned adjacent to the page header text rather than floating opposite it.

Section edit links will be to the immediate right of section titles, instead of on the far right. If you're an editor of one of the wikis which already implemented this change, nothing will substantially change for you; however, scripts and gadgets depending on the previous implementation of section edit links will have to be adjusted to continue working; however, nothing else should break even if they are not updated in time.

Ideas to do this all the way to 2009 at least. It is often difficult to track which of several potential section edit links on the far right is associated with the correct section, and many readers and anonymous or new editors may even be failing to notice section edit links at all, since they read section titles, which are far away from the links.

I apologize for posting this message in English, but I wanted you to know about a change to the login system. If there have been no announcements at the Polish Wikipedia, would you please share this news?

On Monday, the Wikimedia Foundation Platform Team is making significant changes to the way that users login:

• Users will be logged into a new, central domain (http://login.wikimedia.org) when they login to any public WMF wiki with a global SUL account.
• Global accounts will no longer see the "Login Success" page after login. Instead, they will be redirected back to the article where they came from. When the user gets back to the page where they came from, we will transparently attempt to login the user to all of the sister WMF projects, instead of relying on the images on the login success page.
• All of the public WMF wikis will use the central wiki to check anonymous user's logged-in status, and transparently log the user in, if they are centrally logged in.

Most users should never notice the new domain, but there are some very rare circumstances where errors will be shown on login.wikimedia.org rather than the user's home wiki.

Hallo,
an dieser Lindenallee lebte ich einst als Kind in der Zeit von 1939 bis Mitte Januar 1945. Meine Eltern hatten an der Südseite der Allee ein neues Haus gebaut. Trotz dieses unseligen Krieges den Nazi Htler angezettelt hat, verbrachte ich dort eine schöne Zeit. Heute leben dort Menschen aus der Gegend von Lemberg, die ich schon als nunmehr alter Mann besuchen konnte. Wir verstanden uns sofort gut. Aber Kindheitserinnerungen bleiben. Die Alle habe ich sofort wieder erkannt. Ich freue mich, dass der Unterhaltungszustand so gut ist.Ich vermisse den Namen des Fotografen!

Assuming that is a proper name of that list you should most likely use the original title, unless you can find a source for some translation. Literal translation would be "100 najlepszych powieści kryminalnych wszech czasów". Matma Rex dyskusja 09:37, 19 sie 2013 (CEST)

I think a translated title is easier for everyone. I am thinking of children and young people, especially.

I wrote this Polish page, 100 książek XX wieku według Le Monde, a few years ago.

In that case, we translated the page title from the English "Le Monde's 100 Books of the Century" (French "Les 100 livres du siècle").

Wikiekspedycja 2013

Hi my polish friends!

For several days I've been processing the pictures from polish Wikiexpedition (http://pl.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikiekspedycja). Tens or hundreds of new files from southwestern Poland (Lower Silesia) comes on commons each day, as I process all the pictures taken in July 2013.

I can do the whole uploading process by myself in couple of weeks, I can modify the pictures, stitch them... do quite a lot of interesting things, but what I can't do - is to add descriptions in Polish. Eventhough I study the language and I don't hesitate to use it when speaking, it would be quite a pity to flood a bunch of nice and good pictures from Poland with grammatical errors. The pictures uploaded can be seen here: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Aktron/gallery All of them are described in Czech (my mother tongue and a language intelligible to Polish to some degree) and English. There is article about Otte Blom in Polish Wikipedia, however all sources referenced in it show that the name of the person is Otto Pierre Nicolas Blom. Similar descriptions you can find in en:Otto Blom and nl:Otto Blom. Could you confirm we are telling about the same person?
