Zasięg występowania
edytujMorfologia
edytujDługość ciała (bez ogona) 170–260 mm, długość ogona 145–180 mm, długość ucha 28–32 mm, długość tylnej stopy 40–48 mm; masa ciała 180–450 g[4][6].
Systematyka
edytujRodzaj zdefiniował w 1906 roku angielski zoolog Oldfield Thomas na łamach The Annals and Magazine of Natural History[1]. Na gatunek typowy Thomas wyznaczył (oryginalne oznaczenie) zającoszczura mniejszego (L. apicalis).
Etymologia
edytujLeporillus: łac. lepus, leporis ‘zając’[7]; przyrostek zdrabniający -illus[8].
Podział systematyczny
edytujDo rodzaju należą następujące współczesne gatunki[a][10][6][3][2]:
- Leporillus apicalis (Gould, 1853) – zającoszczur mniejszy – takson wymarły w XX wieku[11]
- Leporillus conditor (Sturt, 1848) – zającoszczur większy
