Podobnie jak rok wcześniej rozgrywki toczyły się w dwóch grupach – ośmio- i siedmiozespołowej – po której jednak nastąpiła druga faza grupowa. Czołowa czwórka z każdej z grup walczyła o awans do półfinału turnieju głównego, pozostałe drużyny zaś rywalizowały o nowo utworzony Vodacom Shield, wszystkie zaś zachowały punkty zdobyte w meczach z zespołami z tej samej grupy. Cztery najlepsze zespoły z obu rywalizacji awansowały następnie do fazy pucharowej złożonej z półfinałów i finału. Namibijski zespół wycofał się z drugiej fazy z powodów finansowych.

Pierwszy triumf w zawodach odniosła drużyna Blue Bulls, najskuteczniejszym graczem zawodów został reprezentujący Griffons Eric Herbert, zaś w klasyfikacji przyłożeń z dziesięcioma zwyciężył Jannie van der Walt.
