Zasięg występowania edytuj
Rodzaj obejmuje gatunki występujące od Stanów Zjednoczonych do Nikaragui[3][4][5].
Morfologia edytuj
Długość ciała (bez ogona) 53–79 mm, długość ogona 34–56 mm, długość ucha 9–12 mm, długość tylnej stopy 12–17 mm; masa ciała 6–10 g[4][6].
Systematyka edytuj
Rodzaj zdefiniował w 1894 roku amerykański biolog Frederick W. True na łamach Proceedings of the United States National Museum[1]. Na gatunek typowy True wyznaczył (oryginalne oznaczenie) bajomyszkę północną (B. taylori).
Etymologia edytuj
Baiomys: gr. βαιος baios ‘niewielki, maleńki’; μυς mus, μυoς muos ‘mysz’[7].
Podział systematyczny edytuj
Do rodzaju należą następujące występujące współcześnie gatunki[8][6][3][2]:
- Baiomys musculus (Merriam, 1892) – bajomyszka południowa
- Baiomys brunneus (J.A. Allen & F.M. Chapman, 1897)
- Baiomys taylori (O. Thomas, 1887) – bajomyszka północna
Opisano również gatunki wymarłe z pliocenu Stanów Zjednoczonych:
- Baiomys aquilonius Zakrzewski, 1969[9]
- Baiomys brachygnathus (Gidley, 1922)[10]
- Baiomys kolbi Hibbard, 1952[11]
- Baiomys minimus (Gidley, 1922)[10]
- Baiomys mowi Albright, 1999[12]
- Baiomys rexroadi Hibbard, 1941[13]
- Baiomys sawrockensis Hibbard, 1953[14]
